2025 NEXT! Staged Reading Series: The Reign of Cyrthwyn
Directed by Colleen Bunn
SUMMARY:
Two years have passed since the conflict between man and the fae-folk, and the fall of the faerie queen. Cyrthwyn, the new and non-binary monarch of the humans, attempts a just and peaceful rule; but not all are content with their sovereignty. In this high-fantasy tragedy written chiefly in Shakespeare-styled verse, Cyrthwyn contends with bigotry, the stress of ruling a kingdom, and a plot to overthrow them and replace them with somebody who has an unexpected claim to the throne…
The reading features performances by: Cait Liberati, Andrew Munro, Tahya Hurn, Mark Murphy, Vieno Rowan, Sharon Rankins Burd, Kathy Roth, Tessa Davis, Angela Cobb, and Kathy Varadi.
The NEXT! play-reading series continues its mission to celebrate and inspire Central New York playwrights, as well as to introduce their work to a larger audience. Giving playwrights the ability to collaborate with local directors and performers, this series also welcomes the valuable feedback from the public which is critical to the development of any new work. Plays are selected each year on the basis of their literary and artistic merit, and are presented free to the public.
