Botanical Watercolor Sun Prints Workshop (CANCELED)

Have fun creating beautiful botanical prints with watercolor and sunlight! The sun printing process involves collecting and painting a plant specimen, and pressing it face down onto watercolor paper wet with a layer of wash. Additional paint is added under the specimen. The work is then placed on a warm surface where the sun evaporates off the excess water, and the pigment differentially fills masses and voids in the plant’s form. The specimen is finally peeled off the paper to reveal the finished print.

Instructor Lisa Tessier will help participants identify native plants and their notable features on-site at Fenimore Art Museum to be used for the printmaking process. Materials fee included in cost. Workshop is suitable for adults as well as children 7 & up (with an adult).

Two sessions offered on Saturday, July 11th. Only twelve spaces available per class, sign up early!

Lisa Tessier has a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) and a Bachelors from Cornell University. She teaches in the arts at SUNY Delhi and has also taught in the arts at Capital Community College in Hartford, CT, and in landscape design at SUNY ESF. Lisa’s artwork is inspired by her background as a landscape designer and her particular passion for gardening with plants native to NYS. She works in watercolor to create representational landscapes and has been making botanical sun prints with watercolors since she pioneered the process twelve years ago. Lisa has delivered a past workshop in sun printing at Hartwick’s Pine Lake Campus, and showed her works at Hartwick’s EcoArt Festival and at Fenimore Art Museum’s Art by the Lake.
