Corning Museum of Glass Mobile Hotshop – Free Demonstrations All Day!

EXPERIENCE LIVE GLASSMAKING IN COOPERSTOWN!

with the Mobile Hotshop from The Corning Museum of Glass • July 11–17

FREE Demonstrations:  10:30am, 11:15am (for kids), 12:15pm, 1:00pm, 1:45pm, 2:30pm, 3:15pm, and 4:00pm.

 

Each day find FREE outdoor demonstrations of complex hot-glassmaking techniques – every 45 minutes from 10:30am-4:00pm. There are also FREE demos for kids at 11:15am including You Design It; We Make It! and Don’t Try This At Home (see below)—all on the front lawn at Fenimore Art Museum! (Entrance to the museum requires a separate fee. Free Museum admission for ages 19 and under.)

KIDS DEMONSTRATION SCHEDULE (11:15am each day):
July 11 (Monday)
You Design It; We Make It!  (Glassmakers choose a drawing submitted by guests and make it in glass.)
July 12 (Tuesday) Don’t Try This At Home (A demonstration where the Corning team talks about the science of glass and shows some of it’s amazing hidden properties.)
July 13 (Wednesday) You Design It; We Make It!
July 14 (Thursday) Don’t Try This At Home
July 15 (Friday) You Design It; We Make It!
July 16 (Saturday) Don’t Try This At Home
July 17 (Sunday) You Design It; We Make It!

The Mobile Hotshop takes the live glassmaking experience on the road, bringing the artistry and education of glassmaking beyond the walls of The Corning Museum of Glass – to the public, the design community, and museums worldwide. The Hotshop uses unique glassmaking equipment to recreate a state-of-the-art studio environment. At venues around the world, in conjunction with exhibitions, events, and art and design initiatives, the museum’s gaffers demonstrate complex hot glassmaking techniques.”

3:30pm each day | $12 per person / $10 Museum Members | Meet at Fenimore’s admissions desk.   Get tickets!
Tour and demonstration complementing the Museum’s current exhibition Unmasking Venice: American Artists and the City of Water.

In “Beyond the Bench”, Corning glass makers lead a tour into Fenimore Art Museum to discuss glass artworks in the special exhibition, Unmasking Venice: American Artists and the City of Water, and then take guests to the Mobile Hotshop to demonstrate how those particular objects were made.
