With Shannon Delany’s instruction, participants will use basic techniques of papercutting and paper folding with an X-acto blade to create a raised, multidimensional bird or winged creature on a background that they can then put into a shadow box frame. Students should bring images of birds that they like as references for this project. This workshop is suitable for any adult or teen with good hand-eye coordination, patience, and scissor-handling competence. Materials are included with the workshop fee.
Shannon Delany has been working in scherenschnitte and other papercutting styles since the second grade. Her work has been featured by the Guild of American Papercutters, and she has traveled to Germany to learn more about the roots of the art. With her background in education, she loves teaching others how to be creative.
