Plein Air Landscape Painting Workshop Intensive with Mary Nolan

Two-Day Workshop
Saturday & Sunday, June 29 & 30 • 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Join local artist Mary Nolan for a special weekend workshop of plein air painting. In this course, students will learn to compose on location in natural light while painting on the rear lawn of Fenimore Art Museum overlooking beautiful Otsego Lake. Some painting experience is necessary, but specifically plein air painting experience is not. Oil or acrylic paint is acceptable. Students supply their own paints and brushes; the museum will provide canvas/gesso boards and easels. Mary Nolan is a plein air painter of New England landscapes. Born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in the New England area, her work reflects the beauty and diversity of the region, from coastal marshes and beaches to the streams, wetlands, fields, ponds and forests of Central New England. In 1992, Nolan returned to school to further pursue her formal education and received a BA in Art Therapy from Emmanuel College in Boston, with a double major in Fine Art and Psychology. In 1995 she received a master’s degree in Art Therapy from Vermont College of Norwich University in Montpelier, Vermont. Today, Mary Nolan lives and maintains a studio near Cooperstown, New York. An award-winning artist who has worked in various media for the past forty years, her paintings are found in many National and International collections. She now focuses primarily on creating small onsite oil paintings of local and regional landscapes, many of which are used as studies for larger studio paintings, as well as teaching plein air painting.
