Tranquility and Turbulence
Tranquility and Turbulence
October 10 — December 31, 2026
Clark Gallery
The American landscape existed in some form long before the founding of the nation in 1776 and has been designed by natural forces and human hands. From rolling seas and roiling rivers to calm lakes and the steady stream of canals, all play pivotal roles within the creation and connection of communities. As modes of transportation facilitating trade, and political boundaries defining territories, to sources of contemplation and inspiration for artists and writers, water has been critical to the places we call home. This exhibition draws on the strengths of Fenimore Art Museum’s renowned collections of American Fine, Folk, and Native art to explore how northeastern waterways have shaped our region.
