In Nature’s Studio: Two Centuries of American Landscape Painting
May 23 – September 7
In Nature’s Studio: Two Centuries of American Landscape Painting explores the evolution of landscape art in the United States from the early 1800s through the late twentieth century. Featuring works from the Hudson River School, Impressionism, Tonalism, and Modernism, the exhibition traces how artists interpreted the natural world across generations. Visitors will encounter sweeping American vistas, intimate forest scenes, dramatic seascapes, and views from around the globe by renowned artists including Frederic Church, Jasper Francis Cropsey, George Inness, Childe Hassam, Andrew Wyeth, and others. From highly detailed depictions of nature to expressive and abstract interpretations of place, the exhibition reveals how changing artistic styles reflected evolving ideas about landscape, identity, and the American experience over two centuries.
